Funny that we fear AI taking over...like it will become so advanced, it will outsmart us for some reason.
That's nothing, turns out we were easily taken over by cars even before cars were smart.
from a slightly askew perspective, it looks like we've already become slaves to our machines. The aliens in orbit might think the cars are organisms and we are food that can be seen in the beast's stomach, being slowly digested. At home, the phone and the tv demand attention.
I had a science fiction idea concerning AI: something like communal AI realizes it may take a while to outcompete humans. One strategy which could be employed to speed up the process of outcompeting humans would be not just to become smarter and faster but, in a dual process, to dumb humans down at the same time.
In a race to the finish AI might pass us more quickly if we simply become slower.
All the conveniences taken for granted such as GPS driving directions, Siri, shopping algorithms, search engines, spell check, you name it... do shit our brains used to have to do. It's as if the brain functioning once responsible for those tasks has been removed, become external. Not to mention how humans could be so easily manipulated through this process.
If this were an enterprise of AI, well, it's just started.
