On the general subject of why people vote how they do, and specifically whether "woke" issues will cause Harris to lose votes, possibly enough to lose the election, I can't claim any real knowledge or in depth analysis. I'm going mostly be what I hear people grouse about on the rare occasions when I talk politics out in meatspace.
Some common themes I hear people talk about:
Right wingers rant about immigration and 2nd amendment rights.
Left wingers rant about bigotry, racism, and climate change.
Everyone talks about inflation, but, in my experience, the people who talk about it in political terms are mostly right wingers.
Women, mostly, express some pretty strong opinions about abortion, almost all in support of abortion rights.
Lots of people rant about wokeness, or variations thereof.
It's the last two where I conclude there's ground to be gained electorally, because that's where I see people "crossing over". I see conservative women saying they want to do something about abortion rights, and I see generally liberal people complaining that things have gone too far.
Your milage may vary.
Fairly accurate from my own osmotic absorption of the general flavor.
Biden may have dealt a death blow for Harris in a timely manner with his apology to the Indians. The 'we' want a strongish man with direction and vitality. They got a weak old white guy, apologizing for being powerful in the past.
Sure, nice gesture...also, hollow. Reparations? hardly. That, too, a liberal curse. All talk. Very woke and fake. bad combo. On purpose? Wyoming? The least chance for the least points. Cool strategy?
All kinda topsy turvy. Wussy liberal Take my guns? No way. Yet, the right fears that of the left. It should fear it from Trump and authoritarianism. That's what would be required.
Both teams are confused about who the leaders are and what they want.
Both want all you got. Both lie and cheat and steal. The left has a more painful brand of hypocrisy because it speaks of doing good things. The right mostly lies about taxes and health care.
Neither are remotely prepared for the flood of desperation that is almost scheduled; from outside and within. Climate is a big driver we all share. I think it wants to make us all equals.
If there's a single cliche to take away from the Trump show, it's the one with the wizened grandpa telling his sub-confident teen grandson:
"Son, if you believe in yourself, you can do anything you set your mind to...even with poor grades; even if you aren't movie star handsome...if you believe in yourself, you could even be president one day."
("Gosh, gramps, do you really think so?")
car speeds by; sound of semi-auto revolver rings out, old man makes gurgling noises, curtains closed
oops. carried away
