I don't know if you're familiar with Top Gear, on TV.

The UK version (i.e. the only one worth watching) once had a former soldier, who'd been blinded by an IED in Afghanistan, do a hot lap of their home track. He had the team's racing driver as a guide and managed to set a time faster than some fully-sighted celebrity drivers.
