We're having a winter heat wave in KY. Even at night, well above freezing.
I looked at our pool today...foot of ice below the melt layer on top. Good reminder.
That phase change from solid to liquid water takes a counter intuitive amount of energy.
It's not linear.

The ground feels so strange here...the top part is soft...hard layer below. Being around the thawing permafrost must be extra odd on the feet.

When the next El Nino hits, things are going to be very ugly. The cooling of the Pacific due to to the 3rd La Nina in a row is really stark on those maps yet December is likely to be the planet's warmest month to date.
