spent the day splitting firewood; big, heavy chunks...ugh...borrowed the neighbor's 37 ton hydraulic log splitter. The tool is bad-ass. I kept looking around for novel items to crush. The 37 tons comes down on a narrow blade; probably not much more than a square inch. I was driving it through 2' sections of 18" diameter hardwood with knots. The grotesque force causes the knots to fairly explode, revealing extraordinary grain. I kept getting distracted by the outlandish faces in the wood; saving out pieces for 'show'. I put some coins on the log and the beast folded them into the wood as it continued to split. I have the tool for another day. I want to crush some things. Might try a geode. They're all over the place. Yeah, safety googles first. Those 'thunder eggs' explode glass shrapnel when you smack them with a 20 lb hammer.

Now that i've put away next year's firewood', i feel obligated to live another year.

(glad we had this little talk.)

Demodex are tiny mites that live on our faces. Evidently, we all have them. In fact, almost all mammals have them. We (actually, obscure scientists) aren't sure if they count as 'symbionts' or not. Until recently, it was thought that they had no anuses. Rest easy, they do. They shit in your hair follicles, where they hang out during the day. At night, they emerge and have sex on your face.

How cool is that?

I'm so pleased I know that.

Preferred the story about the log splitter.

Our old dog is dying. It's heartbreaking. She's been our best pal for 15 years. She's still alert and even walked a bit this morning. But she's going down.
We have to decide when to kill her. It's a horrible thing for us both. And the dog.
