seen those turtles in zoos.
who'd have guessed that the basic turtle concept would be so successful and enduring?
looks kind of clunky and defenseless.
box turtles get stuck upside down on smooth, flat surfaces.
that's ridiculous!
sea turtles (evidently) have been doing the same migration for so long, that continental drift turned the short trip to the beach where they lay their eggs into a 6,000 mile journey. they aren't known for speed.
there's 7 snapping turtles in a mud-puddle outside my room. went there on their own; wintered over in it. And they got bigger...from fist-sized to dinner plate size...eating i can't imagine what.
mary picked one up today. it was stuck in something. there's no way to do it safely. young ones can get there heads anywhere, quick. lifting by tail is way detrimental to them. extremely shy, yet, i walk by them all day, 3 feet away.
they duck and hide in the muck. i'm talking about a pond that's 6 feet across and about a foot deep, not even a liquid, really. more like a sloppy black oatmeal. it leaks, too. and it's been dry of late. so it's nuts. $25,000 fine for moving them to a new habitat. they did this! they're totally wild. the bigger pond, also a sludge pit, has monster size snappers. it's fucking nuts. but i dig them a lot and don't know how to help them. they've likely over-populated by finding a niche this protective.

funny,
stupid hippy sees the obvious balancing act...eating most of them...but doesn't eat them.
nor does stupid hippy chick.

god, i hate hippies.

hey stanky, if you see this: ten years ago on this date we came to the stankerosa. FL just noticed that.

Come again sometime. The stankerosa is wilder all the time, but i built a separate place for guests. Trail to the ridge and the river. Sorry i couldn't show you around. Yesterday, Mary and i were hunting morels and i noticed some American Chestnut stumps that i hadn't seen before. Ash trees are still crashing from the emerald bastard. Chaotic forest. Floods washed away some soil that landed on us. Amazing thing, alluvium...and we're on the receiving end of erosion, which i guess is damn lucky these days. Snapping turtles survived another winter. I'm thinking they survived by eating a few fellows. They can evidently take a freeze surrounded in muck because we got some hard freezes, and the pond was down to a foot at deepest. No liquid. I was stunned to see them emerge recently. I'm in awe.

no evidence, of course. and now, there's two huge ones doing courtship. it's very long and slow, the romance. We've seen it a few times over the years, and it's honestly the best, most tender and ecstatic sex i've ever seen. Goes on for days. Don't know if they're known for that.
Been studying ticks more seriously; devising, slowly, a device for gathering them from common trails. So far, i mostly am the device, and i've gathered a mess of lone star nymphs and have them in a jar. We've been told a lot of nonsense about ticks. It gets repeated and stems from questionable research. Scientists are employees of chemical companies in some papers i read, yet claim no conflict. The conflict is in the very nature of the research, which seeks a product at the end. It's biased against outcomes not requiring purchases.

4/20 done come and gone again, this time with easter.
you'd never notice that trump was king, just walking around town.
no tarrif yet that we've noticed. i dont think he's going to upset the applecart much. he's caved on his anti-military stuff, so it's business as usual, him now bragging on trillion dollar pentagon budget, biggest ever. Supreme's even did a pretend "standing up to him' thing, probably because the citizens were losing faith and hating the judges. Hard to tell..pr stunts would be so easy to do, that i'm assuming it happens.

i still think the climate will over-rule any political ambitions of any nation. 2 years of crop losses would take the show down. pretty fragile; surprisingly weather dependent..steady, predictable weather for crops that evolved for that.

sounds like you two found a place that reminds me of the song "Up on the roof". Soul song early 60s "...found a place that's peaceful as can be..."

Funny you´d mention ¨up on the roof¨... like where we´ve been in relative to Medellín.

Lined up the cabin where we´ve mostly been for about a month in anticipation I might need to see a doctor should my plumbing issues have continued. Medellín known for good medical facilities.

No plumber needed. No longer pissing like an old dog.

Got a taste of the city for a few days when we went down and stayed in a nice hotel while she got registered for her cédula ID card with immigration. Seems like a progressive place, great food. I remember you had family there for awhile. But there are way too many other cool places for us to stay there long.

We´re both fucking tickled pink to be way out of the United Snakes. FL still likes to doom scroll the news but I would rather build a fire and bird watch. And being immersed in Colombia is a gas, folks are pretty regular with us. We got a car again, heading off to check out the rest of Antioquia for 4-5 months.

Hope you´re staying dry buddy.
