I'll start posting pics at some point.
We flew into Bogotá last night, got the rental car today and split town pronto. Now just the sound of frogs and rain on the roof.
South American way
Re: South American way
sure you aren't here?
(frogs, rain)
congrats, you two!
very excited for you.
as you must be...
though, as much as you've traveled, maybe it feels normal?
except the retire thing...that's gotta be wild and new.
hope the envy doesn't show.
(though we're glad to be stuck here)
yee-haw!

Same here. Prez, you and Mrs. Prez are an inspiration. You two show it can be done.
Why Bolivia and what is the cost of living like there?

We'll be here in Colombia about two and a half months then onto Bolivia. Almost all that bad guy shit that used to dominate things here gone except for maybe guys sex shopping in Medellín, getting robbed after being slipped a mickey.
Colombian people really friendly and social. Rainiest country on earth so everything is fucking green, coffee growing everywhere so far. We're at a little ecofarm homestay kind of place for a few days, get immersed in Spanish right away. There's a shitload of cool places to go, the Andes kind of begin right around here. Pretty cheap, too.

i've heard they like the children there and celebrate often. My daughter and family lived there for two years; loved it.

Re: South American way
We went out walking on the tiny roads around here, up on a mountain above a town called Silvania, Cundinamarca. Our young landlord asked if we'd seen the big house with the "weird" (he used the English word) elephants statues out in front of the gates there.
They just looked like stylized Hindu elephants to me, wondered why he thought they were "weird". He said that's the kind of thing narcotraficantes used to put outside their places, like it's way out of place for regular folks to still be doing.
