Possible but unlikely. There are a hell of a lot sharks off the American coast right now and the attacks had all the hallmarks of a typical "mouthing" rather than an attack. My bet is that if a shark mouths a person in the water and decides it's not food, they're unlikely to do the exact same thing only hours later.
Sharks are fucking cool, although somewhat terrifying. We had a very large great white breach about 80m from the boat only weeks ago. We decided that was a very good time not to bring in any fish.

Indeed it did. Yet, it is so bloody huge after 13.5 Billion years that any expansion of just a day is barely noticeable even if one is paying attention.
