The statues are safe in a museum. Racism has morphed into classism, which is at the heart of it. As interbreeding dilutes the obvious features, dark skin will persist where people work in fields all day, and is looked down upon by those that can. African racism is strong enough for hatred between tribes to break down into genocide, yet, by white racist reckoning, they're the same. N-worders!
In the case of Rwanda's Tutsi's and Hutu's, government propaganda, broadcast on radio, was the catalyst for combustion. We need to be taught who to hate. Recent developments make it all too clear how easy it is to foster divisiveness. It's a tool.

I wonder if it could be where these undecided voters think the pet-eating immigrants came from?Meadmaker wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2024 1:02 am As I said after the debate, it's so hard for me to project myself into the head of an undecided voter. To me, if a candidate is a narcissist and megalomania who cannot tell truth from fantasy, I don't ask, "Well, yeah, but what does he think about immigration?" That's not the way the undecideds think. If truth were a core value for those people, they would have jumped the Trump ship a long time ago and would not reboard no matter what. Obviously, there's something more important to them.
Do you have any idea where they think the Haitians came from?

I'm guessing they think the Haitian immigrants came from Haiti.President Bush wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2024 2:20 pmI wonder if it could be where these undecided voters think the pet-eating immigrants came from?Meadmaker wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2024 1:02 am As I said after the debate, it's so hard for me to project myself into the head of an undecided voter. Some of them might not know where Haiti is, I suppose. Americans are rather famous for their lack of world geography knowledge. One of the "See they really are eating cats!!!!!" videos was about accusations against African immigrants currently living in Dayton. (That was the video referenced earlier, where the meat on the grill sure looked like it had chicken skin to me, but CBS was investigating.) It wouldn't surprise me if some of the people complaining about Haitian immigrants think that Haiti is somewhere in Africa, but I think most of them know that it's in the Caribbean.

Hades comes to mind.
Back to Trump:
Can you believe this recent Gallup pole?
Trump's approval rating has climbed 5 points since the debate!
And Harris's has dropped.
(Neither are very popular, with a majority of voters disapproving of both.)

Haitians have been victims of racist fearmongering for years. Decades. The only new thing about it is that now an ex-President has said it.Meadmaker wrote: ↑Wed Sep 18, 2024 5:00 pmSome of them might not know where Haiti is, I suppose. It's mostly because of voodoo. (I think the preferred spelloing is Voudoun these days.) And funny accents that are harder to understand than Jamaicans.
Re: trump off the CO ballot
I wouldn't bet on it.
Trump's appeal is irrational.
So he doesn't disappoint in that regard.

Re: trump off the CO ballot
I wish I agreed. I think the race is still up for grabs.
If the election were held today, I would bet on Kamala Harris. But the election isn't going to be held today and I think a lot of her support is very soft. I think she could lose it with a misstep. When it comes to hard core, predictable, votes I think Trump has more.
Fortunately, the more I see of Kamala Harris, the more I think she is a pretty savvy politician. Unlike Trump, she doesn't believe here own propoganda, and makes sure to take the advice of the people she hires to give advice, and de-emphasize unpopular positions. On the other hand, you can overdo that sort of thing and you get accused, somewhat fairly, of being a flip-flopper or a "finger in the wind" politician.
Trump, on the other hand, has been alienating the undecideds with his unhinged behavior, and also by being old. I don't think he can fix either of those problems.

Re: trump off the CO ballot
Here's how I see it.
Trump has a small group of absolutely fanatical supporters who will never vote for anybody but him, ever, and who will loudly shout his name from the rooftops like he's a God-Emperor. He also has a large group of people who see him as generally pretty good, and a larger group who see him as at least better than the opposition.
Those last two groups have been shrinking since the last election, and as Trump has been coming out with more and more unhinged talking points. He's left with the small group of very noisy fanatics, and though they punch well above their weight in propaganda, there's nowhere near enough of them to win him the election.
All Harris/Walz has to do is to whittle down the other less fanatical groups of Trump supporters, and that's what they've been doing.
