I think it more likely that the majority are afraid of change.

Better the devil you know...

Same thing underneath - people are always scared of change.

We couldn't even change our fucking flag. God knows how we ever managed to implement proportional representation. If we tried now I can't imagine it would pass - the internet changed the ground.

I can imagine the reaction if Puerto Rico and D.C. become states.

I'm sure there will be some who will argue against adding two more stars to our flag and insist on keeping the "original" fifty stars.

I don't think it's likely to happen - the Republicans will die before allowing two guaranteed Democrat states to be added.

The interesting thing is that they don't actually need the Republicans to go along. Adding a new state requires a new law, but it doesn't require a constitutional amendment. At some point, if they get the House, Senate, and White House, they could do it.

I suppose there's the filibuster. Filibuster-proof majorities are very rare. That's a big obstacle.

The bigger issue is that voters would find it unpopular, so Democrats don't want to back it. So, it will stay as it is for the foreseeable future.

Personally, I think it's stupid to have "territories". There should be statehood or independence for every part of land owned by the US. Puerto Rico + Virgin Islands should be one state. Everything else gets annexed by a nearby state.

Except the people living in those places don't really like the idea, and Maryland isn't keen on it, either. And sorting out the tax issues would be a nightmere. So, status quo, it is.

The people of our colonies are 2nd class citizens. I'm surprised there isn't more protest on the main land. Having spent time in Puerto Rico, i was at first stunned that they lacked our minimum wage and environmental regs. I was there with my son in law whom had an engineering job on a project that he said wouldn't be allowed on the main land. Mexico is modern by comparison. And rich.

Fuck me.
The roof will protect your home, and the AR-15 will protect your family,” Jason Polly, President of Roof EZ, said.
These people are clinically insane. Almost all gun usage with a person as the target are suicide or murder.

That's ... weird.

"Virtue signalling" is not a new phenomenon. We used to call it "holier than thou".

But it's just plain weird that giving away free assault weapons is virtue signalling.

Because that's what this really is. Only true, America loving, right thinking right wingers would give away a gun when you buy a roof, or so the narrative runs.

I don't like whne politics messes with commerce, and in America today, it's pretty much constant.
