Parts of the south side of Asheville by the Swannanoa River and lowland by the French Broad River got fucking creamed. Not to mention highways all around, western North Carolina is very very very uneven terrain.

Last place we rented there in Asheville has a creek, Beaverdam Creek, runs right through the yard. Drains local parts of the Blue Ridge. Way on the northside of town.

Just head back from our former landlord... cottage didn't flood, no electricity for a while but everything still intact.

Gorge around the TN/NC state line between Knoxville and Asheville on I-40 has always been prone to getting fucked up in big storms... this time even worse. I-40 going to be closed a long time there there.

I-26 north of Asheville towards Johnson City goes over a pass right at the TN/NC state line, Appalachian Trail goes under I-26 right there.

That shit is shut down though shouldn't be as major, probably a slide. Down that hill on I-26 into TN is the town of Erwin, the Nolichucky River goes through there... that's all fucked up.

Un-fucking-believable what the storm did.

that little river (Nolichucky) was said to have carried 2-3 times the flow at Niagra Falls for a short time.
My neighbor is a white water paddler and says that there's new rapids there. Like, huge boulders moved.

Tonight (or actually Wednesday around dawn) is forecast the first freeze for a big swath of the U.S.
What an event that is! Everything changes. Abruptly. Plants die, leaves fall, reptiles look for holes to tuck away in, and the sky gets gray and forlorn.

Where I live, the sky is already grey and forlorn, blocking the view of the comet.

I dislike the gray skies more than the cold.
Grew up with it; half the world is cold and gray.
Snow makes it brighter.
Except in Boston. I recall the snow being black there.

It's a wonder so many people end up living in an ugly place.
Odd that we let it happen; made things ugly.
