It's oft said here but is worth repeating: We are doomed.

Alright, time to start getting some of that money back from Uncle Sam.
Plus, the Mexican peso has lost 18% of its value vs the USD so far this year, that will help your dollars go even further in Mexico now, good time to go is after a devaluation, things now cheaper there for you.

Take Pres' advice and get yourself down to Mexico.
Aside from the cheaper life, think of all the senoritas! Pretend to be rich and they'll be falling over themselves to get into bed with you.
Fuck, I might move there myself!

While I appreciate the encouragement guys I have a feeling it's a detail intensive move. It'll take some homework on my part to determine if such is possible for me. But I'll revisit the expat in Mexico websites. Expect the report in a week or so.

One place that´ll be mentioned repeatedly is San Miguel de Allende, which is around an hour and a half from Guanajuato city (both places are in the state of Guanajuato). Another will be Ajijic, on Lake Chapala just south of Guadalajara.
Never hung out in Ajijic, had a lot of experience with San Miguel years ago, a lovely small colonial city. Big expat community there, maybe a good place to start.
Your only semi-major expense will be the plane ticket, round-trip from Portland to Leon/Guanajuato International just over $500 (I just checked). Other than that you can live well fairly cheap in Mexico.
No need to try to immedately make such a move as if it were a permanent one. Start by just checking it out, good bus service is everywhere in Mexico, I definitely recommend also checking out Guanajuato city, close to San Miguel, both serviced by same international airport quite nearby.

There was a phenomenon in San Miguel that took me by surprise: young women from Mexico City (about three hours away) coming up to San Miguel on the weekends to hang out in the beautiful main plaza and pick up gringo guys.
