It took me a while to figure out a response, because I've seen it said before. People on the left say it doesn't really exist, but people on the right talk about it constantly, and when they do, they describe Democratic and/or lefrist actions or policy positions.President Bush wrote: ↑Sun Nov 10, 2024 8:04 pm Wokeness is a propaganda creation almost entirely manufactured by the right wing sphere.
Those actions and policy positions are real things.
So, the term "woke" and all of its derivatives is a right wing invention. No doubt about it. It's a term that mocks left wing positions and policies, but those positions and policies are very real.
The term itself mocks left wingers by observing an air of superiority among people who hold positions that tear down traditional opinions.
So, the traditional view of when the United States of America was founded might say it was founded in 1776, but along comes a woke person proclaiming with an air of superiority that they will educate our young that the US was really founded in 1619.
A traditionalist might say that William Shakespeare is worthy of study, but a woke professor will claim with an air of superiority that Shakespeare was racist (Othello), anti-Semitic (Merchant of Venice) and sexist (most of his other plays), and that we should study others instead.
A traditionalist might encourage education in subjects like math, and encourage standards in education to encourage achievement and learning, but a woke educator will come along and declare that testing is racist.
And, the final straw, a traditionalist might declare that there are two sexes in the world, and you can tell which one someone is by looking at them naked, a woke person will explain that's terribly naive, and its just a social construct and that in this modern world we have learned that people can be anything they want to be, and that men can have babies, too.
And as all of those things come up, people scratch their heads and say, "You're serious?" By the time it gets to that last one, though, they say, "Oh, Jesus Christ what the hell is wrong with you?" And woke journalists call it hate speech.
It's a thing. And because Democrats didn't take it seriously enough, Donald Trump is President-elect.
