I'm going to stick to my theory that CO2 is the problem. We know it makes people dumber at high levels, so it's not beyond possibility that the increased levels now are slowly making people dumber and more susceptible to idiotic ideas.

Looks like 30,000 to 40,000 PPM is needed to start fucking people up. So it's unlikely anyone is going to die as a direct result of CO2 poisoning. No, it'll be the temperatures. And the resulting lack of something to eat. And possibly, just possibly, the new disease bugs that just love a warmer Earth. That, BTW, is what we call speculation. Just a small clarification for stanky's sake.

It's deeper than you think.

The OSHA approved level is 5000 ppm in an 8-hour exposure. At that level the tested effects are quite stark, and clearly dangerous: https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC3049465/

Also, it needs to be noted that the CO2 level of 420 ppm is measured at a very clean-air site for obvious reasons. Cities have higher concentrations, and people inside buildings are subject to double or more the base CO2 level quite frequently. This study claims cognitive impairment is noticeable at 1400 ppm, where a 25% decline in cognitive function is noted. https://www.news-medical.net/news/20200 ... rment.aspx

There are people in closed rooms breathing that level right now, and I shudder to think what the level in Delhi is today.

And if 1400ppm causes a 25% decline, it's not a stretch to imagine people who typically live at 600ppm losing a few brain cells.

The thought of Thanksgiving turkey brought back some memories of this joint:

The Gobbler Supper Club & Motel was a roadside attraction built for Clarence Hartwig, a turkey-industry tycoon, between 1966-1968 in Johnson Creek, Wis., at the intersection of Highway 26 and I-94. Hartwig wanted out of the turkey business and requested Helmut Ajango, a Prairie-Style architect, to build him a striking restaurant and motel in honor of his former profession.

The exterior was made from Quartz crystal and lava rock, imported from a volcano in Mexico. As you walked inside, you were greeted by an onslaught of pinks, purples, brasses and all shades in between. From the walls the turkey-motif carpeting and the vinyl chairs to the clamshell phone booths. Gold lights hanging from chains, purple-fabric maître d’ stand, turkey-patterned carpet ... also free champagne Monday through Thursday. It was definitely a sight to see and experience.

The revolving bar originally came from the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Chicago, seats 34 and makes a complete rotation every 1 hour and 20 minutes. At the bar, you wouldn’t be able to tell if your vertigo was induced by the booze or the spinning bar. People got confused when they stepped off and they couldn’t find their friends when they returned. The bartender would slow it down to accommodate. When the bar started, the bartender couldn’t get out until the bar swung around so that its opening matched the doorway again, eighty minutes later. What a trip! If one bartender was on duty, the bar usually wouldn’t run.

“The Roost,” a circular dance floor suspended from the ceiling over the rotating bar, was added in 1970. The restrooms were shaped like a wedge and wallpapered with red, purple and gold design. It was an experience in itself—and even more after consuming a few drinks. As for the menu, nearly almost item on the menu contained turkey in one form or another. A hot turkey dinner and a brandy old fashion could heal any soul. A delightful dining experience, specializing in turkey and prime rib, seven days a week.

Interior was straight out of a David Lynch movie, revolving bar good for a couple beers driving back after a Milwaukee Brewers game. It was odd, the bar seating was on a rotating turntable and if you weren´t paying attention you´d look up and your drink would be a few feet away down the bar.

Sorry I missed it! I could use a nice turkey dinner this evening. As the last of 6 in my immediate family, I don't cook big nice holiday meals anymore. And I rather miss that. Friends? Sure, but not any close enough to share Turkey Day with.

Nights like Thanksgiving or xmas for me were good nights to head for a preferred place at the far end of a bar, to have some camaraderie with whoever else you knew who showed up there instead of some family scene.
