I remember a street person in Madison, WI, many years ago who self published a pamphlet on handy tips for saving money, these days they would be called hacks I suppose. One hack involved crumbling up used urinal cakes and putting the pieces in your pockets, shoes, and elsewhere to help cut back on laundry and bathing expenses.

In the years i spent wandering the back roads of america (as a federal fugitive) i found some novel ways to amuse the well adjusted (normal?) folks, and stay fairly clean. Loiter around a car wash (on a warm sunny day) and strike up a conversation with a likely soul. You can find one who will gladly hose you down in your funky outfit. Be sure to rinse well. You'll be dry soon enough.

speaking of america, how can we look at it without addressing cars?
It's what we are, to a large extent. And now, this archaic form of transportation is simply too big to fail, even though it is failing in every way, including the pursuit of happiness. How can we possibly replace it with something else now?
This clip demonstrates the cost of this habit to society at large, and compares it to other modes of transport. Pricey as it is to own and run a car, the user doesn't actually cover the cost to society. In fact, not even close. Turns out, public transportation fees partly cover auto's debts.
It's worth noting that we (American citizens) were somewhat tricked into embracing the car and hiway system we're stuck with.
In fact, it was a real conspiracy...a collusion between big auto and big oil to squelch other systems, like rail service, that might have been more competitive on equal ground. Instead, bribes and pressures were used to get around obstacles that the other transport means faced. Railroads were crushed by needing to pay for the rails whereas, not so with cars and roads. There was more to it; like disincentives for city public transport, all devastating in hindsight. The colluding parties in this conspiracy were found guilty and had to pay a fine. $500
and this is why, to this day, L.A. traffic is the way it is. And small town train stations have been turned into pizza joints, across america.

I can't say whether or not he ought to have been fired. What a prominent figure (as in big fish, small to medium sized pond) like that does could have an effect on fund raising. I don't know if it actually would or not. I can't imagine why anyone would care. However, there are probably some who do care, and probably a lot more who would publicly claim that they care. Maybe it would have an effect. It might also be the case that people interracting with him might be distracted by the knowledge that there are porn videos of him doing interesting things with his wife and/or other people. He deals with college aged kids, so it's already a challenge to keep them thinking about academics instead of sex, so this couldn't help.
But "abhorrent"? Really? Whatever for? Does anyone really believe that or are they just saying what they think they're supposed to say?
But dammit, this guy is my age and I wish I could make porn videos that someone would find worth watching.

I've been laughing for almost 50 years that American TV is allowed to show people getting their heads blown off, but not a nipple.
Your country is crazy.
In NZ, he would have been fully protected by law as long as the videos don't feature illegal content.
