Re: Headlines that signal that the story will be misleading and/or stupid

I din't need much more reading. In today;s ruling, https://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/23pdf/22-807_3e04.pdf, Thomas didn't criticize Brown at all. He criticized Missouri v. Jenkins. ETA: And, actually, lower court rulings in Missouri v. Jenkins. Anyway....law gets complicated. However, what isn't...

Re: Headlines that signal that the story will be misleading and/or stupid

Here's the headline: Clarence Thomas attacks Brown v. Board ruling amid 70th anniversary Now wait. Clarence Thomas is a pretty pathetic excuse for a Supreme Court Justice, and a powerful argument against lifetime appointments. However, I think attacking "Brown" is a bit too far. I'm even v...

Re: Planet America

May 23rd 2024 An american military veteran was killed in the street, presumed to pose a threat when he was exercising his right to carry a gun in public. You might expect America’s gun-rights advocates to demand justice for the dead man. ..... At least in that moment, Mr Perry seemed to understand....

Re: Planet America

to me, this implies a relative shortage of young folk, of the sort that might work as a server. It might be as simple as that. The pandemic lockdowns forced it into a sudden shift instead of a more natural gradual shift. But maybe there are just fewer people available to fill bad jobs. That's not a...

Re: Planet America

The worldwide labour shortage in the service industry isn't new, though, so don't expect an improvement any time soon. As long as everyone is working, then it's not such a bad thing. The fact that people don't want to work for a pittance serving me food is my problem, not theirs.....assuming that t...

Re: Planet America

I have always booked ahead. That seems most common. We have gotten used to doing that. On this particular occasion, that wasn't possible. That solves the waiting time issue, but it still leaves the question of why there are half empty restaurants where you have to wait for a table. The superficial ...

Re: Planet America

Here's another one that I dont know if it's just American, or if this is a global phenomenon. My wife and I went out to dinner tonight, and faced a phenomenon that has happened to us several times in the last couple of years, but never used to happen. There were lots of empty tables. We had to wait ...

Re: Planet America

Is this sort of thing a primarily American thing, or does it happen all over? Background: A guy who is really good at kicking footballs (the American sort) is also a conservative Catholic. While speaking at a commencement ceremony at a school for conservative Catholics, he said some things that were...

The problem with war is that one side can start it, but both sides have to agree to stop it.

No good comes out of arming the belligerents, and yet no good comes out of letting one side win, either.
