growing older
#1
It's no secret that this club is comprised of a handful of aging white farts, from middle class backgrounds.
Two of us are in our 70's. 33.333 %.

We are not a young voice.
It's vaguely possible that we  garnered some cumulative wisdom.
I wouldn't know. I felt wise when i was five. I thought the 'grown-ups" were mostly insane.
And now I are one.
Feeling pretty much the same.

Strange, watching you friends crap out. All of my peers have health issues. I don't see it getting better.
Oddly enough, it's not all that depressing to me.
Like, i was born for this. We all are.

I hope for grace, I suppose. To behave with some dignity as it all turns to shit.
Had I been wiser, i might  have extended the ride longer.
But there's no dodging the plan.

Why do we behave so illogically?
Why have we co-created this impending nightmare?
Why so many of us? So hungry and destructive?
It could have easily gone another way. Or so it seems.
Are we hopelessly lost?
Personal death isn't the issue...it's the fate of the offspring.

How does that look?

Yes, and I don't believe there was ever a possibility of another outcome.

We got smart enough to defeat evolution physically, by extending life, and stopping the young dying in droves, but not smart enough to see the doom coming as a result of those "benefits".

We'll go down in some future palaeontologist's thesis as the shortest-lived species to inhabit the plane, replete with theories as to why it went wrong.
Love is... that one person whose freshly-warm toilet seat you don't find disgusting.

Now that was brilliant timing Stanky,  I was given a link yesterday to an artist who specialises in oldies.
Brilliant stuff.  We could recognise ourselves in some of them.

The details are a treat,  'the devil' is in them.

He's done one for me!

I call it "Turnin' Right".

Pres and Sparky are lookin' on.   It encapsulates my place on Recog I think. [Image: yellow-laughing-smiley-emoticon.gif]

Cheer up Stanky, getting old is the prize, we got a longer ride, those who didn't enjoy it so much jumped off.
We're still aboard so we can't be having too bad a time.

Helluva ride.  The DNA pool will adapt to whatever they grow up with, not our problem (not mine anyway)

But just remember if our ancestors had been aware that they would be blamed and denigrated by their descendants for working their arses off to leave a better world for spoiled brats with mobile phones and no sense of history they may not have worked in those factories that gave us what we now want to  "build back better".  What if they'd known that if they built stuff better they'd be blamed for killing the climate!

They should have just shot all the inventors, scientists, and doctors and saved the planet for the following generations who would never know that they'd sacrificed so much.

We'd have grown up grateful for a roof and a meal as they did.   And you know the really wonderful thing about that?   We wouldn't have known jack shit about the climate changing at all.  It would just be weather, same as ever.

They'd have no way to tell. No scientists modelling stuff, people would still die of a broken leg, nothing would change because there was no way to invent anything 'polluting'.
You don't see the amusement in that?...mmm  guessing not.

They already built back better!  The best and highest and broadest standard of living in human history.  Best education chances, cleanest safest work places. Best opportunity ever for the poor to better themselves.
Democratic rights, access to what would have been viewed as medical miracles... good clean fresh food, the gadgets to keep it that way, the ability to travel to undreamed of places for a holiday, or just a business trip.
People not too long ago spent their entire lives within 100km radius of where they were born!

But now, they were the bad guys.  They discovered the way to make life easier for the offspring.
That was their big mistake it seems.  It got so easy the offspring think they can afford to throw it all away.

You're right that humans are illogical, but I don't think we agree on why.

Dunno about you but I've narrowed down the reason for staying alive to sheer curiosity.

works for me.

The thing we continue ignore is the fact that we are a part of the natural world, not outside it.

Thank you religion!

I know I'm the youngest in this group, so I want to ask a question:

Can I go out and play?

Got a clean hanky? Who are you going with? Where will you be? what time will you be back? Don't do anything stupid and don't get your clothes dirty. Now you can go out and 'have fun.'
