Evil Billionaires
#1
In the red corner - Jumpin' Jeff Bezos, the world's richest man.

Has just asked the public to give money to Amazon workers.

In the blue corner - Bill "Basher" Gates, formerly the world's richest man.

Is setting up production facilities for seven different factories to produce Covid vaccines, in case one of them works. Prepared to waste billions of dollars to save his fellow humans.

Quote:Even though we’ll end up picking at most two of them, we’re going to fund factories for all seven, just so that we don’t waste time in serially saying, ‘OK, which vaccine works?’ and then building the factory.

Gates isn't the worst billionaire.

my opinion is that the concept of "billionaire" is flawed and archaic.
My inner socialist would hope that government should fund these projects....from the revenues gained through progressive tax codes and closing of loopholes. All billionaires play these games. Our dear potus is a fine example.

Trump is a billionaire?

But they're not, and Gates is.

Seriously, if you add the number of lives Gates is saving through his existing vaccination programs and medical research, he's vying for the title of greatest human ever.

But we should be. It's a basic service of government.
We needn't address it if Gates has it covered.
The amount of power and influence Gates has makes me quezzy.
He'll make money doing this. Somehow.

What relevance does "should" have when it isn't going to happen?

I agree it should, but I live in the real world, and deal with real problems. "If" and "should" don't matter a damn to me, what "is" matters.

What power & influence does he have? He doesn't donate more than chump change to political parties and pretty much goes his own way. If polio is eradicated, it will be almost entirely down to the Gates Foundation.

I find it amusing you can't just accept that he's a good bloke who happens to have billions at his disposal and is using it for the good of all humans, despite massive evidence that he is.

And that looks like the last refuge of rational thought.

I'll be right because I'll be right. No evidence, not even an opinion, really, just bias against him because of the size of his wallet.

Tell me, how does being biased against someone because they're rich differ from being biased against someone because they're not?

How does being biased against the size of someone's bank balance differ from being biased against someone because they were born black?

What, I'm supposed to throw away all these hot dogs just because they fell on the floor?
Jeff Bezos
Ask not what is the problem but, rather, where is the lesion.
