Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez

She is the business - what an absolute shame USA has such stupid laws regarding age of participants in presidential elections.

The utterly vile shit the right is coming out with against her, the threats she receives daily, coupled with her views, shows how much the world needs people like her.

I have odds on her being assassinated before November 2020.

just lost a huge response, with a slightly errant touch of the keyboard.
No way i'm going to re-write all that, but i want you to know i tried.

I went into some of my most radical corners, so maybe it's just as well that it got eaten.

Long and short of it?
No way the masters of this military-industrial-complex will allow a progressive to take power.
They might allow the appearance of a free election process.
But there is no way our democracy is more robust than their control of it.

The Supreme Court recently confirmed that gerrymandering is cool.
The D.O.J. is helpless against the crimes of the Trump cartel.
Our voting machines remain largely un-fixed.
Our media remains largely controlled by big money. Fox. MSNBC, makes no difference.
True progressive voices won't be heard.

It's a farce. Kamala Harris scores a big jump in the polls because why?
She called out Biden on some vague race card? Because, i guess she's black? I couldn't tell. They don't make darkies like they use to.
Any one could have taken Biden down. I doubt he even wants the job. But a 'black' female did it. Sort of. I guess. It was huge for her.
She's the most conservative of the candidates. Got a big bump via theatrics. Not via policy.
I guess we like her now, right?

But who's Tulsi Gabbard? Castro? Yang?

never mind that.
look over here!

Yeah, 'they' would gladly pop anyone that actually threatened their power and control. With zero qualms.
But it doesn't need to get that clunky. It serves them better to keep it looking legit.

No need to 'off' Obama, for instance. He was a team player all along. A well polished tool.
He gave credibility to our new found acceptance of diversity. While serving the old masters.

Mayor Pete is a good one for that... a perfect white guy; Rhode's Scholar smart; mayor of a shitty racist city in a shitty racist state...but by gosh, he's gay. that's good enough for me. Who cares what he's into? He's queer; here's here; he's smart...he could help us prove that America is over homophobia. Like Obama did with racism. Like Hillary was supposed to do with mysogony.

What a distraction.
Look what they need to even make it to the next debate; where they can have a chance to win our love in 30 second bites.

It's an absolute horse-shit of a system; everyone knows it; nothing can be done about it; a 6 year old kid would know how to fix it; but it simply isn't allowed.

No meaningful and necessary change can possibly emerge from this system that has been evolved to prevent exactly that.

It's probably going to come down to pitch-fork time.
Or passive acquiescence.

I wouldn't mind seeing a huge 'don't vote' movement in the U.S.
If enough people didn't vote, it could give a 'no confidence' vote to the whole farce.

Imagine, all that money and effort and enthusiasm for some candidate, liberated for other efforts entirely.

Considering that I'll never vote in America, and that my opinion isn't worth a pinch especially as it comes from "the dark side" of politics, is it okay if I just mention that I'm totally fucked to understand how anyone can see AOC as anything other than a seriously ditzy, overly excitable, scientifically dumb, air headed exhibitionist with really scary and creepy facial expressions?

Is it because she's a tad brown? If she was a blonde bimbo with the fantasies of a 10 year old would she be so popular?

What about if she was Ivanka saying all that dopey "world's gonna end in 12 seconds/days/weeks " or whatever shit?
Jeezus boys, she's about as credible as Kim Kardashian ... seriously?

Oh, I'm sure they'd fight tooth and nail. Doesn't detract from her, though.

Not me - I think she's the worst of the lot, but the most likely to beat Trump. She's a female Obama.

Wow, she's got you as well, hasn't she?

Saying she's scientifically dumb is flat wrong, ditto the airhead/ditzy. She's one o very few with an ability to cut to what matters, and never mind who she upsets saying it.

Scary facial expressions? Have you taken a look at the president of USA?

And exhibitionist? Well, I'd sure look if she did, but again, it's complete nonsense. She's easily the poorest member of Congress and what she says is both true and personally felt.

She's no saint, and will probably become as corrupt as any, but putting her down as you are is simply buying the alt-right attacks on her, lock, stock and both barrels.

I don''t visit alt-right sites, and SKY etc here don't give her much air time at all. I've seen some stuff on the net that made me laugh out loud, but that's from my assessment, not from what I'm told to think.

From what I read of her "Green new world" or something?? it read like socialism for dummies predicated on the usual belief that other people's money is infinitely available.

Just expressing my impression of her and she screams "dingbat" to me.

Perhaps if you saw her at a congressional hearing?
She can cut to the chase, rather succinctly.
Devoid of the usual fear of the long time congress people.

I find her sharp as a tack; devoid of fluff.
Idealistic? Sure. Maybe naive? OK.

She's under a lot of scrutiny. The right wing loves to use her as a whipping boy.
She has horse teeth; just a bar-tender, etc.

Hardly.
She managed something extraordinary...getting elected.

"Dingbat" makes me think of Sarah Palin.

are you sure you aren't watching Fox News in your sleep?

President Harris looks okay to me.
Ask not what is the problem but, rather, where is the lesion.

Not your Fox news, that kind of crap doesn't wash here,  we find it funny.
Doing the figures (which I'm not great at but good enough) I see a lot more of the Left media than I do of the Right.
SKY only gets a look after midnight when there's bugger all else on to watch.

I'm not American you know.  I don't think the way Americans do and don't react to the same issues that Americans find serious.  different strokes....

AOC would drive us nuts here, she'd be filed with the other nutters in parliament as jokes.

People who get all intense make us nervous.  Maybe it's just me but I see hysterical obsession, not passion in people like that.

...(it's okay, I'm pretty sure it is just me.) Wink

Unlike consumerism, which is predicated on the belief that other people's money is infinitely available?

I guess it all comes back to that question of whether you care about future generations or not. Even the feudal system overlords recognised that not allowing people to die of malnutrition or lack of care made sense.

Quite funny that based on viewing the exact same words out the same person's mouth can generate such directly opposing impressions.

Done right, she will beat Trump hollow.

I'd be disturbed about her very close links to Wall St, but she's probably the best you can hope for right now.

At least you'd see less of this fucking disgrace: https://www.truthdig.com/articles/report-conditions-at-immigrant-detention-centers-are-so-horrific-agents-predicted-riots/

No wonder Trump & Aussie's PM get on so well.

Nailed.

That's the real difference between Aussie & NZ right there.

In Aussie, she'd be as loony as Pauline Hansen.

In NZ, she'd be seen as Jacinda's better-looking younger sister.

Have you seen where the revolting scum on the right have attacked her for pronouncing Latina words correctly?

She's really got under their skin - maybe they sense someone capable of building a wall against their shit?
