Holy cow!

That's crazy.

How could that have slipped past us all these years!?

A touch ironic that we just noticed it, and it's already slated for destruction.

Hell of a river, that Amazon.

Saw a show about surfers that catch a wave during high tide at the mouth of the Amazon, which they can ride up river for a day.

It's hard to grasp the size of that river without pictures. It truly dwarfs the rest.

And yet their are ocean currents (like the gulf stream) that dwarf the flow of the Amazon.

They are massive heat flow exchangers, exerting huge influences on climate. When they get altered, it's a game changer.

Iirc, Madrid, Spain is on a similar latitude as NYC...with radically different climates.

Mostly because of predictable ocean currents.

(Don't worry, this isn't disaster porn.)

And thanks for the link!
Definitely new to me.

New to everybody I think.

Puts the 'runoff' pollution theory of GBR bleaching into question but that depends entirely on the species of coral growing on the respective reefs. Coral that's survived the crap that comes down the Amazon is hardly likely to be the same as that growing in clear tropical waters.

Should give incentive to the studies into coral though eh?
